Production 1: 3D model of sword

Untitled-presentation-9.pngFor this model I decided to use this image as a reference as I like the look of the design and it doesn’t look too hard to model.

Untitled presentation (1)

i started by first modeling fully a quarter of the blade using planes which i continued to extrude and move until I had a shape which i was happy with.

Untitled presentation (2)

Next I mirrored quarter of the blade on the positive Z axis and merged the two pieces together.

Untitled presentation (3)

For the next stage I mirrored the two bottom pieces of the blade on the positive Y axis and then merges then together afterwards i used the target weld tool to fill in any holes. at this stage i also decided to add 2 more large spikes to the blade as i thought that they looked nice.

Untitled presentation (4)

When I had finished the blade I began a similar process on the cross guard, using planes to create a quarter of it.

Untitled presentation (5)

I then mirrored the quarter of the cross guard on the positive Z axis, I then merged the two quarters together and bridges the back of them.

Untitled presentation (6)

Next I mirrored the bottom half of the cross guard on the on the positive Y axis and then merged then together and afterwards used the target weld tool to fill in any holes.

Untitled presentation (7)

when i finished the cross guard I moved on to the handle and pummel which i made using a cylinder for the handle and a sphere for the pummel.

Untitled presentation (8)

When the sword was complete i went inside of it a deleted all the faces which couldn’t be seen from the outside as to not render unnecessary faces. and afterwards it was time to unwrap.

Untitled presentation (10) for the unwrap i used planes to unwrap each side on the blade, cross guard and the end on the pummel, then i used a cylinder on the handle and then again i used a cylinder to unwrap the the middle of the cross guard.

Untitled presentation (11) after i had unwrapped all of the sword I sewed some of the pieces together such as the cross guard and parts of the handle, now i was ready to take a UV snapshot and texture the sword in Photoshop.
