Violence in this time period was perpetrated more out of necessity than cruel desire, in this very broad time period and the early humans were surrounded by a large amounts of threats including dangerous predators, natural disasters and threat of other humans needing land and food for their various families and clans, gathering food in this time was also dangerous because of a large amount of competition and the difficulty of hunting animals at the time, added to this was the primitive nature of their weaponry which was constructed from rocks, sticks, bones and lashings taken from plants and hair, however it was this weaponry which game them an advantage over the other animals in the world.
Medieval period

Torture and harsh punishments were mainly used in these times such as burning, drownings, hangings, executions, stretching and other types of gruesome torture.
